Resources for the care and rescue of injured or orphaned wild animals.
deer An Emergency Rescue may be required if...
ONE If the animal is obviously orphaned. Baby wild animals often appear to be orphaned when in reality their parents are nearby. Baby rabbits and birds are left alone while their parents are off gathering food. In many cases all that is needed for us to do is place the lost baby back in or near it's home and watch to see if the parents return.
If it is determined that the animal is truely lost and cannot survive or is threatened by neighborhood pets then an Emergency Rescue may be required.

TWO If the animal has a life threatening injury. Like humans, wild animals may encounter accidents throughout their lives. Nature has a way of healing. If it is determined that the animal has sustained a life threatening injury then an Emergency Rescue may be required.
THREE If the wild animal poses a threat to humans or pets. As more land is required for humans the wild animals become displaced and in some cases may need to be relocated to safe zones.

Steps to complete a successful Emergency Rescue.
FIRST Contact a wildlife rehabber. A wildlife rehabber is usually skilled and will help you with the particular needs for the wild animal you wish to rescue.
SECOND Do NOT attempt to feed or care for the animal yourself. A wildlife rehabber will help you decide what is best for the animal. In many cases you may place it in a warm and darkened area until help arrives. Be very cautious however for injured or diseased animals may bite and cause you harm. Feeding the animal may cause it more harm than good.
THIRD Follow the instructions of the rehabber. As you can see emphasis is placed greatly on your need to contact a wildlife rehabber nearest you for a successful rescue effort.
